Why are we doing this?
So you will have these files for your future use in special education
classes and in working with youth in the schools. Remember to make them
useful for YOU!
Get ten folders and label each with one of the
ten service categories from IDEA 1997. You may also wish to add a folder
for gifted and another for providing services for students who are considered
"at-risk." Develop and print out a description or vignette for each category
to place in the front of each folder. These usually take 2-4 pages to
answer the required questions accurately. Send the description summaries
to the instructor via e-mail.
Read chapters 4 - 16 in the Turnbull and Turnbull book and certify completion
of the readings. Make notes and place ideas in the appropriate folders
you created. Now place notes and ideas from the readings in the appropriate
folders as you begin to build a directory of ideas and materials for successfully
teaching and caring for students by implementing IDEA 97 as a teacher.
[If you do one that would be a gift to others in the class and want to
share, feel free to access the secret file drawer in the WebCT and deposit
a copy there - that way Holmes will not tumble to our discrete interconnectedness,
but we will gain from your insightfulness and make progress faster as
a team.
