Prepare Folder and Write Summaries

To complete this assignment successfully, you should:

  1. Study the assignment carefully
  2. Read the corresponding material in the text
  3. Fill in your Name and Email address
  4. Send notation for each file completed

Get ten folders and label each with one of the ten service categories from IDEA 1997 [i.e. Hearing impaired, LD, EBD]. You may also wish to add a folder for gifted and another for providing services for students who are considered at-risk Develop and print out a two-three page description of each category to place in the front of each folder. Send each description summary to the instructor via e-mail. [If you do one that would be a gift to others in the class and want to share, feel free to access the secret file drawer in WebCT and deposit a copy there - that way Holmes will not tumble to our discrete interconnectedness, but we will gain from your insightfulness and make progress faster as a team.

Describe characteristics
Identify causes - i.e. etiology
Identity prevalence
List assessments used to recognize the presence of the disability
Provide a continuum of severity or extent possible in youngsters
Suggest typical age of onset
Impact: Is this a school issue or life issue - Why?
Name of someone who has achieved greatness
Typical support needed

Remember, you can print out the form for future reference

Read chapters 6-16 in the Heward textbook and certify completion of the readings. Make notes and place ideas in the appropriate folders you created. Continue supplementing your folders with information you gather as you begin to build a directory of ideas and materials for successfully teaching and caring for students by competently implementing IDEA 97 as a teacher.
