Interview a Special Ed Leader

Find a community leader in your area. Set up an interview with this leader and ask him/her to outline the kinds of resources that are available in your community. Using the information from your interview, fill out the check list. In the form below, list the services that are lacking in your community. Spend two hours going from one resource to the next picking up business cards and brochures that describe services and file them in a separate folder called Community Resources.

Note: If you are unable to locate a local SP ED leader, use the local phone book to find resources. Feel free to call some of the resource numbers and ask for information. .

Rubric

Excellent: The list is organized and specific to one locale. There are at least 20 names and phone numbers from a diverse group of service providers. The student shares findings with others. In the case of the BJ assignment, the names were developed after talking with a specialist in the field and there is a WebCT listing of 20 or more agencies or groups who provide services.

Good: There is evidence of a search with at least 10 agencies and phone numbers represented in the list.
