Let Your Fingers do the WalkingFind a local phone book for the area in which you work or think you may be working. Based on the ideas from the online lesson, Exploring Distant Galaxies, explore the phone book to see what kind of services are available in your community. You may want to print the check-off list below and mark the services available in your community
. Next, go intoWebCT and share what you found in your community with your classmates. If you wish, you can work together to help each other come up with ideas for how you could mitigate the lack of services and resources in your communities. A good way to learn about additional resources is to call the Health Department, County Superintendent, Counseling or Behavioral Health Services and community clinics.
Rubric Excellent: The list is organized and specific to one locale. There are at least 20 names and phone numbers from a diverse group of service providers. The student shares findings with others. In the case of the BJ assignment, the names were developed after talking with a specialist in the field and there is WebCTlisting of 20 or more agencies or groups who provide services. Good: There is evidence of a search with at least 10 agencies and phone numbers represented in the list.
