Teacher as Peacemaker

As a teacher, you will often find each person who is working with a child will have feelings and beliefs about what is best for the child. To do your best in building an IEP you will need to explore the feelings of various stake holders and meet the divergent views about student needs that are held by parents, the hopes and dreams of students, expectations of administration, desires of other educators and your own agenda, or belief system.

What skills will you need to acquire if you hope to use consultation and collaboration to resolve school issues about serving students appropriately?

Choose a situation and provide a scenario that shows lots of different ideas from those participating. Then list the skills you think might be used to mediate the differences and get people ready to collaborate on a common goal or objective that will serve the student's needs..
