Lesson Seven - Middle School

Preset: Introduce self by stating name and making up one modifying word that goes with the first letter of your name.

    Examples: I'm Ned and I'm nifty
    I'm Holly and I'm happy
Students go around the room saying each student's name and modifier in order, trying to remember each one. Clap at each success.

Development:
    Show and explain the initial set of Rules and Consequences.
    Rules:
      Be real
      Be attentive
      Communicate ideas and feelings
    Go over the positive consequences for keeping the rules
      Participate in activities
      Allowed to share feelings at beginning of next class
      Opportunities to work in community
      Treats for Honor Students
      Periodic party with music of choice for all students while working
Activity:
Students develop a personal self portrait following the worksheet

Summary: Honor Students get to know and value themselves
    They take an active role in the classroom so they don't cheat themselves
Materials needed:
    Rules and Consequences chart
    Personal portrait questions
Personal Portrait
  1. Images or pictures that represent me.
  2. Models in my life
  3. "I believe" statements
  4. Descriptive words -- loving, smart, helpful . . .
  5. Goals for the future
  6. Things I can change
  7. Words of wisdom I can share
  8. People who matter the most
  9. Favorite things --food, color, animal
  10. Pastimes
