Plug-insThere are a lot of fun toys available to make browsing and surfing the world wide web a lot of fun. Most of them are not necessary, and the browser you use will have some tools included in the upgrade you are currently using. (You do need a fairly current browser - Explorer - at least version 7; Navigator, at least version 9). You also need Java script for this course - and it is included with the upgraded browsers. This is a link so you can upload Java http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp A Wide Assortment of Plug-ins The following are some fun things to try. Audio plug-ins are varied and there are a number of choices that are free. Some of the top free programs are located at http://www.pcmus.com/Free-Software.htm Video plug-ins include tools to allow you to see things using Quick time or video streaming. A good location to review video plug-ins is: http://www.freefunfiles.com/software/audiovideo/videoplugins/index.html You don't have to buy one to get a good one!! Multimedia plug-ins include Shockwave and shareware tools for adding dimension to your browsing. http://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/ Internet Explorer has some interesting plug-ins called power toys. This site is http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/default.mspx You do not need most of these, but they really are fun. Remember to download plug-ins when you have a couple of hours to spare - in case the download is protracted - and try loading in the late evening when the net is less busy and goes a little faster. It is helpful to be near the computer, since there are glitches or messages sometimes. You might want to do some of the reading you need to do for the class while you explore some of the more interesting sites and plug-ins.
