Review:

You learned something about precolonial West Africa.  The Epic of Son-Jara offers a second illustration of the culture that Achebe says was destroyed by European colonialism.

You saw the development of a cultural hero quite unlike the typical European pattern for which Achilles is the model.  Son-Jara illustrates yin methods & outlook.

Like Sakuntala, The Epic of Son-Jara suffers because we could not experience the full production.  The dramatic & musical effects would have made the work engrossing.  I hope you were able to listen to music by:

These contemporary musicians come from the same region of West Africa as Son-Jara.  If you only listen to Garth Brooks, you have a big treat in store.

You saw how Islamic culture influenced African tribal cultures in Saharan Africa.
