Globalization and Enlightenment Ideologies
Globalization: the advent and spread of “global” political institutions that have power over the nation-state and that act in the service of an economy without borders. Examples of such institutions include the European Union, the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank.
Globalization
1. describes a process in which the world is becoming a single market;
2. is the accelerated expansion of free-market capitalism throughout the world due to the expanding power of multinational corporations, the dismantling of trade barriers, and computer technology;
3. Consists of five key elements:
a. Internationalization
b. Liberalization
c. Universalization
d. Westernization
e. Deterritorialization of the economic and political world.
