THE COLLEGE MUSIC SOCIETY and ASSOCIATION FOR TECHNOLOGY IN MUSIC INSTRUCTION 1996 ANNUAL MEETINGS October 24-27, Atlanta, Georgia Integration Of Music Graphics, Text And Midi Files In Web Pages Kenneth R. Rumery, Northern Arizona University ----------------------------------------------------------------- MIDI SET-UP To set up a Macintosh so it will play Midi files, use Netscape 2.2 or later, a midi plug-in and Quicktime and Quicktime Musical Instruments 2.0 or later. Put the plugin in the navigator's "plugin folder" then follow Arnold's instructions for enabling it and properly setting mime type. Note: remove LiveAudio and similar plugins from folder. If using Quicktime 2.5, use the "QT settings" control panel to select QT midi or an external midi device. My own setup is: PowerMacintosh 7500/100, 48MB RAM, L2 cache MacOS System 7.5.5 Quicktime 2.5, Quicktime Musical Instruments 2.5 Netscape 3 Arnaud(Arnold) Masson's MidipluginPPC (also available as Midiplugin68K) OMS 2.2 (Opcode's Open Music System) Nightingale (MusicWare) and Overture (Opcode) to make midi files. Virtual Memory on (VM turned off prior to system 7.5.5) Quicktime and other system software updates can be found at Apple Support and Information. For Windows Machines: Try MidiGate at http://www.prs.net/midigate.html, a midi plugin for Windows. This site gives instructions on how to set up the computer using a sound card. Quicktime for Windows is available at Apple Support and Information. ----------------------------------------------------------------- SOURCES AND LINKS Music Web Pages at Northern Arizona University Ken Rumery's Home Page (home of Composer's Tools) http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~krr2 Tim Smith's Home Page (home of the Goldberg Variations ) http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~tas3, This Presentation http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~krr2/atmi_files/atmi_title.html Associations ATMI http://www.music.org/atmi College MusicSociety http://www.music.org/ Composers The Scriabin Quicktime 2.0 MIDI page http://gramercy.ios.com/~restemey/Scriabin/ScriabinQTMidi.html Steve Reich: The Composer and his Critics http://www.slis.flet.mita.keio.ac.jp/~ohba_t/srtxshc.html The Film Music Page http://www.filmmusic.com Swayland's James Horner Page http://ezinfo.ucs.indiana.edu/~swayland/ Twentieth Century Composers http://www.emory.edu/MUSIC/ARNOLD/20thComposers.html Electronic Music Arachnaut's Lair - Electronic/Experimental Music Links http://www.webcom.com/~hurleyj/links/links-music.html Sound Computation http://datura.cerl.uiuc.edu/netstuff/sigsoundLinks.html Fractal Music Project http://www-ks.rus.uni-stuttgart.de/people/schulz/fmusic/ Grainwave ftp://mills.edu/ccm/grainwave/grainwave.hqx listproc@eartha.mills.edu (SUBSCRIBE grainwave ) Yavelov's Links http://www.xs4all.nl/~yavelow/docs/Links.html ----------------------------------------------------------------- HTML Background Colors http://www.infi.net/wwwimages/colorindex2.html Falken's Cyberspace Tools http://cybertools.thru.net/tools.shtml Hagan's HTML Help Library http://www.netscape.com/people/hagan/html/top.html HTML Reference Manual http://www.sandia.gov/sci_compute/html_ref.html TAO of HTML (aka "Art of") http://http://www.taoh.com/index.htm WebTech Validation Service http://www.webtechs.com/html-val-svc/ ----------------------------------------------------------------- MIDI Best of MIDI http://www.pris.bc.ca/dlg/midi.html Classical MIDI Archives http://www.prs.net/midi.html Grame - MidiShare http://www.grame.fr/english/MidiShare.html Harmony Central: MIDI Tools and Resources http://harmony-central.mit.edu/MIDI/ Mac-Supporters Music and MIDI http://www.bangor.ac.uk/music/MusMIDI.html Macintosh MIDI User's Internet Guide http://www.aitech.ac.jp/~ckelly/mmuig.html MIDI Farm Internet http://www.midifarm.com/ MIDI Home Page http://www.eeb.ele.tue.nl/midi/index.html Music Resources on the Web http://socsci.colorado.edu/~brumbaug/BCB/resources.html QuickTime and Midi http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/help/midi.html Hardware Ensoniq http://www.ensoniq.com Digitech http://www.digitech.com Kurzweil Music http://www.youngchang.com/kurzweil/index.html Roland http://www.rolandus.com Yamaha http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/ Reference Charles Kelley's Home Page http://www.aitech.ac.jp/~ckelly/ Dilbert Zone (a corporate perspective) http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/dilbert/ Chris Reed's Site (film music and film music composers) http://www.cris.com/~Careed/ Ethics Updates http://www.acusd.edu/ethics Library of Congress http://lcweb.loc.gov/ Music Cognition Research http://mars.let.uva.nl/honing/welcome.html ORAT Web Developers Guide http://orathost.cfa.ilstu.edu/classes/WebDevelopers/WebDevelopers.html PowerBook Army http://net-army.com/powerbook/ Todd's Macintosh Support Pages http://www.cjnetworks.com/~tfrazier/sftwre.html Schools and Centers Bangor Music Department http://www.bangor.ac.uk/music/MusicHome.html FSU Center for Music Research http://www.music.fsu.edu/cmr.html FSU Film School http://peter.music.unimelb.edu.au/musicweb/index.html Full Sail (a private school of digital media, film and video, audio) http://www.fullsail.com Illinois State College of Fine Arts Home Page (ORAT) http://orathost.cfa.ilstu.edu/ Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/ ME/U (Mind Extension University) http://www.meu.edu/ Scoring Software Coda Music Technology http://www.codamusic.com/ (cross platform) Mark of the Unicorn, Inc. http://www.motu.com/ Musicware, Inc.
