Fall 1997 Student Composition Virtual Recital

WELCOME

Welcome to a virtual recital of compositions by students at Northern Arizona University. The works on this program were completed during Fall 1997 by students enrolled in composition in the School of Performing Arts. All the composers worked in the Digital Music Studio under the supervision of Ken Rumery, Professor of Music. All works are the intellectual property of the artists featured in this program.

The compositions featured on these pages are streaming RealAudio files. A Real Audio player is needed to hear them. Instructions an how to install the Real Audio player come with the download. The original sound files were compressed so they can be received through 28.8 modems as monophonic sound. There is loss in sound quality and loudness, a compromise made for the sake of general distribution. Because of this loss, amplified auxillary speakers are strongly recommended.

The sound files were produced in the Digital Music Studio using the Kurzweil K2500 synthesizer, Overture (Opcode), Studio Vision Pro (Opcode), Finale (Coda), ProTools (Digidesign), AudioMedia III sound card (Digidesign), RealAudio Encoder 3.1, and a Macintosh 8600 with extra memory and mass storage.

As this site develops, we hope to find ways to improve the sound quality. In the case of synthesized vocal music, we regret that it will be difficult for the listener to connect the words and music. Thus, we very much want to be able to stream words so they synchronize with the music. We have not yet developed this technique and are open to suggestions from our virtual concert goers.
