Types of Special Education Services for Students with Mild Disabilities

In this third topic for the Understanding Disabilities module, you will learn about how special education is configured. Specifically, you will look at the types and number of children with mild disabilities, the types of special education services these children receive, and review some information about including children with mild disabilities in typical classroom settings.

Objectives:
1. Define "mild" disabilities.
2. Indicate the number of children with mild disabilities who are attending public schools.
3. Define the types of special education services and state the advantages and disadvantages of each.
4. Indicate the number of children with mild disabilities who are served in each type of special education setting.
5. Discuss the outcomes of special education.
