How to Connect to NAU Shares, JAN, and DANA drives using Mac OS X

Good news! DAVE is no longer necessary for Macs to connect to Windows or UNIX servers.

1) From the Finder, use the Go menu to Connect to Server... or use the keyboard shortcut -K

2) Use the "SMB" protocol. Type the following address in the address box, substituting the name of the desired server and share: smb://ServerName/ShareName

For NAU Shares:

smb://naushares.ucc.nau.edu/ShareName

For JAN "Web drive"(public_html folder):

smb://jan.ucc.nau.edu/webhome

For JAN "Z drive" (PC folder):

smb://jan.ucc.nau.edu/abc12

3) Click the Add to Favorites button if you will access this drive frequently, and then click Connect

4) As shown below, enter your domain in the first box. For students, the domain is "NAU-Students." For faculty and staff, the domain is "NAU." Enter your JAN or DANA username in the second box. Enter your password* in the third box.

5) After clicking OK, the server should mount on your desktop. Open and save files as you would to any other drive.

* If you encounter a "-5023" error, it means your NAU password has expired. Mac users at NAU normally never need to change their passwords but until you do, you won't be able to connect in this manner.

If it's any consolation, you can change it and then change it back to the old one. Change your password at this address:
