The Watwood Lab:

PhD Student

Brenda Harrop - received her MS in biology (microbiology) at NAU in 2006.  Brenda is now a member of the first NAU-IGERT cohort; her PhD project links microbial community structure and function at Fossil Creek, a travertine stream system in northern Arizona.

MS Students

Bre Espen - currently working on her MS in biology (microbiology) at NAU.  Bre's project focuses on better understanding the microorganisms involved in bioremediation.  She will use molecular and functional approaches to characterize solvent degrading organisms at contamination sites and will examine the bacteriophages that can alter their activities.

Brian Haven - currently working on his MS in biology (microbiology) at NAU. Brian is characterizing the microbial community associated with endosymbiotic bacteria in fish guts.

Angela Woods - co-advised with Dr. Egbert Schwartz, she is currently working on her MS in biology at NAU.  Angela is studying the process of toluene degradation and will use stable isotope labeling to explore the role of toluene-degrading bacteria in soil communities.

Undergraduate Students

We have a strong group of NAU undergraduate students working in the laboratory. Right now two of our major super stars are Brandie Lambdin and Melissa Scales. We are always on the lookout for sharp, motivated undergraduate researchers!
