Steering Committee Meeting Minutes
September 21, 2007
Cline Library/Room 200/12:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m.
Present: Karen Pugliesi, Pat Haeuser, Christy Arazan, Angela Willeto, John Campbell, Cynthia Childrey, Wayne Sjoberg, Bruce Fox, Don Carter, Diane Verkest, Brandon Cruickshank, Matt Spillsbury Becky Butcher
1. Welcome and Thanks!
- Karen opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and thanking them for their efforts in producing the self-study report. She noted that the self-study report had been submitted to the site team, along with an electronic product and the new strategic plan. Karen pointed out that everyone on the Steering Committee should have a copy of the report and if they needed copies of the Executive Summary for distribution within their areas to contact Becky and she would provide these.
2. Outreach Efforts
- Karen again thanked those Steering Committee members who helped brainstorm and create the catalyst for the outreach efforts of Celebrate NAU Day and the NCA Fairs.
- Becky reported that the NCA Fairs were held at the Employee Mixer, the NAU-Yuma campus, NAU Assessment Fair, NAU Benefit Fair. She also indicated that she and Eva Hatchner would be presenting the self-study and strategic plan processes to the staff at Capital Assets on Tuesday, September 25th.
- Becky also stated that Celebrate NAU Day was a wonderful experience with broad community collaboration that served 1450+ lunch in addition to the building tours, ITV broadcast, and President's Forum. She noted that Follette Bookstore contributed 13 iPod shuffles that were given away in addition to Public Affairs donating 4 tickets for Cardinals game and NAU Athletics donating 6 tickets to NAU vs UofA. KJACK also contributed to the day by announcing during the two hour picnic
- Becky reported the NCA online course numbers with 9410 entering the course since it was launched April 4th, 2007 with 2479 taking the 12 bi-weekly assessments. There are three assessments remaining in the NCA online course. The course is scheduled to close October 31, 2007.
- Karen reported that she and Becky will be meeting with student leadership early in October regarding student groups meeting with the site team during the visit.
3. Site Visit Update
- Karen noted two handouts for those present—a list of all site team members and their area of expertise in relation to the five criteria (see attached) and a tentative schedule for the site visit, noting meeting places, times, and groups for October 21 through October 24 (see attached). She noted that Steering Committee members may be asked to escort site team members from one meeting to the next. She again reiterated if any areas are in need of the self-study executive summary to please contact Becky.
4. Next meeting
- The next Steering Committee meeting will be prior to the site visit, October 19th from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. BAC 206
