Subject: WCOAS08 This is the Third and Final Announcement of the West Coast Operator Algebra Seminar 2008 to be held on September 13 and 14 at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. Only FOUR WEEKS REMAIN until the meeting so please, if you haven't already, let us know if you intend to attend, by returning the registration form (below). Only TWO WEEKS REMAIN until the conference rate at the Fairfield Inn expires. WCOAS 2008 Web site: http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~ns46/WCOAS/ We hope to see you in Flagstaff in September. Sincerely, Nandor Sieben (NAU) Steve Kaliszewski (ASU) WCOAS 2008 Organizers %---------------------------------------------------------------------- Program: There will be 9 talks, starting Saturday morning and ending mid-day Sunday. We plan an informal dinner on Saturday night. The following people have agreed to speak: Sergey Bezuglyi David Blecher Julien Giol Alex Kumjian Terry Loring David Milan Judith Packer Tatiana Shulman Gabriel Tucci Abstracts are available at the conference web site. %---------------------------------------------------------------------- Weather: Because of the high elevation, it is much colder in Flagstaff than in Phoenix or at the Grand Canyon. Forecast is available at http://www.wunderground.com/US/AZ/Flagstaff.html %---------------------------------------------------------------------- Travel: Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG) is served by a small number of airlines, including US Airways. Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) is much more accessible, and is an easy and scenic 2.5-hour drive from Flagstaff; travelers may find it cheaper and more convenient to fly into PHX and either rent a car or take a shuttle to Flagstaff. We will try to coordinate shared travel by car or shuttle between PHX and NAU for those participants who so desire; sending us your arrival and departure information and (ideally) cell phone number will help us do this. Note that encountering Friday afternoon traffic in Phoenix will make the drive longer and less enjoyable, so you may want to arrange your flight itinerary accordingly. Flagstaff also has an Amtrak Station. Driving directions, and other information for visitors to the Flagstaff area, can be found at the conference web site and at http://home.nau.edu/about/visit.asp %---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lodging: Conference hotel: Fairfield Inn Mention "the WCOAS Conference" to get the conference rate of $104 for both single and double rooms. THIS RATE EXPIRES 2 weeks before the conference. The Fairfield Inn is at walking distance from the meeting room (Engineering and Technology, building 69 on south campus). Parking on campus is free on the weekends but resident parking lots are forbidden. A list of other nearby hotels is available on the conference web site. The meeting room is on the south campus of NAU, Engineering and Technology building 69. %---------------------------------------------------------------------- Registration form: Please fill in the following registration form and send it as soon as possible to: wcoas-p@mailbox.nau.edu First (or given) name: Family name: Affiliation: Mailing address: Email address: Arrival information: Departure information: Cell phone number: %---------------------------------------------------------------------- Financial support: We gratefully acknowledge support from the NSF, and locally from the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Northern Arizona University. Since the NSF funding came through at a reasonable level, there will be no registration fee. We have limited funds to support some conference participants, on the usual inverse seniority basis. Priority in funding will be given to unsupported graduate students and postdocs. We hope that participants with grants and/or travel money from their home institution will use these to pay as much of their expenses as possible. (Hint: you can increase the probability of getting fully reimbursed for your lodging if you share a room with someone.)
