Fun Halloween
Ideas
With
Halloween almost here there are many options
afforded to students who want to celebrate.
If your student has a house or apartment,
or their residence hall has invited neighborhood
kids to trick or treat they'll soon find
out candy can get expensive quickly. A little
tip to save some cash: have them head over
to Greenbacks, the dollar store near Safeway
off of Milton. It has tons of good candy at
inexpensive prices as well as all sorts
of decorations!
I Remember
Mama
I
Remember Mama is being presented by
NAU Theatre October 9, 10, 11(2:00 &
8:00 p.m.) and October 15, 16, 17,
18 at 8:00 p.m. in the Clifford White Theatre. I Remember
Mama is a warm-hearted story of
growing up in America. For Season Tickets

Homecoming Dedicatee
Chain
Gang tapped Syl Allred, senior lecturer
of Biological Sciences, as this year's Homecoming
Dedicatee. Allred was selected for
his outstanding teaching abilities and the
positive connection he maintains with students.
He will be honored at the annual Homecoming
Dedicatee Banquet scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday,

Selecting a Homecoming Dedicatee is an annual
tradition at NAU. Each year NAU students
select a faculty or staff member for this
honor. The person selected must have been
a full time NAU employee for 10 years or
more. The Homecoming Dedicatee is usually
tapped a week or two prior to Homecoming
and is involved in major events during the
week of Homecoming.

Friday, Oct. 10 and are not available at
the door.

Tours
of Riordan Mansion!
First opened
in 1983, Riordan Mansion State
Historic Park is a house built in 1904 by two
brothers, Michael and Timothy Riordan. The mansion
is actually comprised of two separate homes connected
by a common area known as the billiard room. Originally
built with hot and cold running water, central heat,
and electricity, the home was quite modern for a
frontier logging town. Designed by Charles Wittlesey,
the architect for the El Tovar Lodge at Grand Canyon
Village, the house is an excellent example of Arts
and Crafts
Architecture. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,
with tours beginning at 9:00 a.m. Reservations recommended.
For more information visit the website at

| Very Important Information
for your Student!
SPRING
2004 EARLY ENROLLMENT
Early
spring course enrollment begins
November 3rd and continues through
November 26th. Encourages your student
to consult the NAU undergraduate
catalog at http://www3.nau.edu/catalogs/grad02/ so that they are clear on what
courses are required for their
degree plan. Students are
required to meet with their
advisor prior to spring course enrollment.
For more information on scheduling
advisor appointments, students should contact
the Gateway Student Success Center
at (928) 523-4821 or go directly
to their website at http://www4.nau.edu/gateway/. All NAU students should
participate in early enrollment.
Help ensure that your student takes
advantage of this priority service.
FALL 2003 FINANCIAL AID:
It is not too late to receive financial aid for
the 03-04 school year. Students
are encouraged to fill the FAFSA
out on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov
to speed up the process.
This will determine their eligibility
for Pell grant, student loans and
federal work study for the fall
and spring semesters. Once
a student's file is complete with
our office the Bursar's Office will
refund into the student's checking
account or send a check to their
preferred mailing address.
04-05 ACADEMIC YEAR FINANCIAL AID:
Students will be able to submit the 04-05 FAFSA
beginning January 1. We
encourage all students to submit
their FAFSA as early as possible
(early February) so they can have
their file complete and financial
aid awarded before they leave
for the summer.
OFFICE OF FINANCIAL AID NEW WEBSITE:
Financial Aid has a new website. Check it
out at www.nau.edu/finaid.
We hoped to have made it
a bit simpler to find what you
and your students are looking
for. The alphabetical
index is quite useful.
LOOKING TO SAVE MONEY?
If your student is looking for
ways to save money around town,
have them pick up a Student Discount
Handbook. They are free to students
and faculty throughout the University,
usually in spots around the University
Union, du bois Center, Bookstore
and even some Academic buildings.
The small books have coupons for
restaurants, retail and clothing
shops, newspaper subscriptions and
also hair cuts among many other
services. So if you student has
to eat, wear clothing, is literate
or has hair, they'll be able to
use the book all around town.
