The most common grass species include Hilaria mutica, Bouteloua eriopoda, Bouteloua curtipendula, Aristida spp., Dasyochloa pulchella. Shrubs and cacti are common in over-grazed areas and may become the dominant species. The most common shrubs are Prosopis glandulosa, Mimosa aculeaticarpa, Larrea tridentata, and Ziziphus obtusifolia.
