Triassic Exotic Paleogeography, Southwestern US

Early Triassic Exotic Paleogeography, Southwestern US (240 Ma). The difference between exotic and non-exotic interpretations clearly shows in this view. The Stikine exotic arc approaches North America, although the absolute distance off shore is unknown. The Cache Creek forearc complex lies adjacent to the Quesnell arc. Tethyian oceanic plateau fragments colliding with the Quesnell arc may have triggered the collapse of the Havallah basin and the formation of the Sonoman orogeny

Late Triassic Exotic Paleogeography, Southwestern US (215 Ma). The Stikine arc moves towards North America. A developing back arc basin separates the Stikine arc from the Stikine microcontinent
