PL501
Communities and Public Planning
(3 credits)
Please note that this web site is currently being relinked. The relinking and editing of module 1 will be complete by August 25. Modules 2 and 3 revisions and linkages will be completed prior to each of those module start dates. If the professor locates and adds additional items, you will be told in the VCC although the items would appear in the readings list as well.. You are welcome to browse the site and readings, but keep in mind that the later modules may be in revision or linking status. And remember to read the communication information for the VCC. The first week you will need to respond to the instructor there.

Topics include planning history and basic concepts, the public planning process, issues of growth, economics and personal values in communities, growth control and methods, and ways to maintain rural character or create a sense of place and involve the public.

Students taking this course typically range from the novice who simply thinks the topic is interesting, to those intending to or currently working in planning and seeking a review (AICP). As such, the topics cover a wide range of information and rely on readings that run the gamut from intro to thought provoking.
