HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The Lumberjacks placed seven runners in the top ten Saturday, and the men won their second-straight as the Jacks battled tough competition in only their second meet of the season.

The Lumberjacks women and men were led by the Swedish duo of Ida Nillsson (18:15.6) and Henrik Ahnstrom (25:41.3). Both placed second overall in the competition.

The men won their second straight, scoring 33 points with four runners finishing in the top 10, and defeated Arizona State (46 points) and Cal Poly (58 points) for the top three finishing’s. The women placed third with 75 points behind UC Irvine’s 61 and Arizona State’s 64 points.

The NAU soccer team was in attendance after a Friday night victory 2-1 over Cal State Fullerton in the UC Irvine/Nike tournament. Having the day off, the team dropped by for support before their game Sunday in nearby Irvine.

“All and all I was pleased with our performances from both teams,” said Mann. “The women’s race had two very good teams. I was especially pleased with Ida’s (Nillsson) performance, who was the first collegiate athlete to finish, and with Henrik’s (Ahnstrom). Anytime you can win a major championship like this you have to be pleased. Our team is in a very heavy training schedule right now, so I am happy to see us competing well. The soccer team showing up was fantastic. It’s nice to have some faces in the crowd.”

NAU cross country competes next at the Indiana State Invite in Terre Haute, Ind., Sept., 29. The NAU soccer team competes Sunday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. versus UC Irvine at Anteater Stadium.
