I would like you to write about ONE of the two articles authored by ARUNDHATI ROY, better known as a novelist, about important political and social issues in contemporary India. The first is her protest against the NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS of 1999, End of Imagination . The other is a protest against the building of a huge dam on one of the rivers in central India, The Greater Common Good . Both articles have generated their share of criticism, some of which is available at the SAWNET site's page about Roy.

For your assignment you can do one of the following:

1. Simply write me a review of one of ROY's articles, about 2-3 pages, double spaced, etc., for which I will give you points up to 5 % of total course grade.

2. In ADDITION, research and locate views and postition opposing Roy's and summarize the argument against her. The two together should be about 3-4 pages, and will fetch you points up to 10 % of the total course grade.

3. Do the above, and present an EVALUTIVE response to the positions occupied by Roy and her detractors in a paper about 5-7 pages long, and you may get points up to 15% of the total course grade.

This assignment will be due on Friday April 28, though will accept it as late as May 2, BUT NO LATER.
