OPPORTUNITIES

Numerous opportunities are available each semester for percussionists to study and perform with NAU instrumental ensembles in on-campus concerts and for frequent state and regional tours.  Performance ensembles include Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Collegiate Band, Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, University Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensembles, Jazz Combos, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Pep Band.

Recent performances include a 'Bands of America' regional competition exhibition at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix, and a halftime show at an Arizona Cardinals football game - both by the NAU Marching Band, and a CBDNA conference guest performance in Reno, Nevada by the NAU Wind Symphony.  The NAU School of Music hosts and provides performances for marching band festivals, jazz festivals, large concert ensemble festivals, and composers’ conferences, in addition to its renowned summer music camp – all to large and appreciative crowds and fans.

Percussion auditions for concert ensembles occur at the beginning of each semester, just before the beginning of university classes.  Audition materials are comprised of assorted orchestral percussion excerpts in the areas of xylophone, orchestra bells, snare drum, cymbals, and timpani.  Audition packets are available in person or by mail from the Band and Orchestra Office at (928) 523-3413.

Jazz auditions also are scheduled at the beginning of each semester.  Audition times and materials can be acquired at the Jazz Studies Office, Joel DiBartolo, Director.  Contact the Jazz Studies Office at (928) 523-3779.

The Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra holds auditions for principal and/or section percussion each year in the month of August.  To schedule an audition and to acquire audition materials specifically for the FSO, contact their office by phone at (928) 774-5107.
