First-ever three-train meet at Hill Valley, Utah during an operating session. Photographer was a bit late on the draw. The Stateline Local and Mogollon passenger train wait on sidings as the Mountaineer passenger train departs in the background.
Crew of the challenging Oildale Turn job, seen here spotting cars at East Flagstaff. Two-person crews are typically assigned to conductor and engineer positions.
Action in Flag Yard. Yardmaster (right) receives car cards from the conductor of a through freight, PO-102 for classification.
Ryan spots some cars at Timber Creek with an aging Decapod, assigned on the Way Freight TCG job (Timber Creek - Glenview).
John oversees the passenger train, Mountaineer, through Flag Yard (foreground) while the power for OP-103 awaits switching on the next track. Guests quickly note the diversity of railroad names represented, even for an ops session, as evidenced here with two "fallen flags" and the U.P.
Abe communicates with Dispatch on his radio, asking to throw a switch at Hill Valley to run around his train. He and his son, Issac, guided the Mogollon passenger train through busy switching scenes, and on schedule!
Dave (left) handles car cards with his duties on the North Flag Switcher job while Craig assists Larry with the Oildale Turn.
Dave demonstrates prototypical(!) uncoupling with the use of skewers. It's a low-tech railroad in the Arizona Mountains!
Crew of the through freight, PO-102 shares a fun moment with the photographer as it passes the Stateline Local at Hill Valley.
Heavy traffic on the Glenview Branch! The Mogollon passenger train slinks past the Way Freight TCG, both at the end of the branch. The local needs to head back to Timber Creek allowing the Mogollon to turn its train.
Mike works the Stateline Local, spotting a hopper at the Cluck Coal Company. Many of the businesses and towns on the MPL are named or associated with club members past and present.
A second aging Decapod (nee-Central Vermont) backs downgrade to Timber Creek after serving the branch-line town of Glenview. The crew decided to doublehead the decapods to Timber Creek from Flagstaff, then split one off to Glenview. |
