Imperial Advanced Combat Rifle

The IACR is a new low tech combat rifle that fills a number of roles. Rated at Tech level 10 the IACR utilizes as its primary amunition the standard 5.5 mm rifle round. The secondary amunition for this weapon is the 20 mm smart HE round.

The HE smart amunition is controlled by a computerized, full-ballistic solution, electro-optic fire control system. This gives Imperial Troopers a technological advantage over point or area targets during daylight or nightime activities. There are four HE grenade modes: Air burst, point detonation, point delayed detonation and window. Air burst is used for supression fire over enemy troops. Point detonation is for explosion on impact with the target with PDD used for penetration of a surface and then explosion. Window is a new technology where a window or doorframe is painted with the laser range finder and then the round explodes inside that window range. Very useful for supressing enemy activity within a room.

The 5.5 mm carbine attachment accepts standard Imperial magazines for that caliber. This unit is able to be detached from the rest of the housing and fired separately if necessary.

Optionally a special laser carbine unit may be employed with a special battery pack giving 200 rounds of laser firepower.

The fire control system of the IACR is the most impressive part of the weapon. The brain of the FCS is a shielded multifunction microprocessor that provides full ballistic solutions during day or nightime situations. A laser rangefinder is used to paint targets for itself or for support artillery. This system is accurate out to 1000 meters.

There are three quickly switchable viewing modes: day, TV and night. Day gives a standard 3x magnification while TV boosts this to 6x. Day mode is unaffected by battery loss. Night incorporates the prior two modes and adds thermal imaging.

Control of the FCS is via rotation switches on the top left side of the unit and also via push pads near the trigger housing. The finger touchpads allow rangefinder activation and range adjustment up and down in 1 meter increments. The rotation switches allow setting viewing modes, fuse settings, and battery on/off. The battery will operate continuously for 48 hours before needing to be replaced or recharged. Recharging may be done with the included power adapter at any Imperial Standard charging dock.

Ling Standard Products sells their version of the IACR for 10,000 credits. 20 mm HE rounds for this weapon cost 25 credits per round. 10 rounds are held in the rear clip. The weapon with clips installed weighs just under 7 kilos.

The penetration rating for the HE rounds are 16/- with a damage of 4. The danger radius for this round is 6 meters.

The optional laser carbine module costs 5,000 credits and adds 1 kilo to the weight of the unit plus the weight of the powerpack.
