Growth Areas in the Food Service Industry

To complete this assignment successfully, you should:

  1. Read the assignment carefully
  2. Complete the activity as outlined below


The food service industry is comprised of many categories. A multiple of things causes changes in the the many facets in the industry. Some of the things that cause changes are fluctuations in the economy, changes in demographics, etc.

The purpose of this assignment is to have you use the forecast section of the homepage for the national restaurant association home page to examine and comment on some of the trends in the food service industry.

www.restaurant.org/research/forecast/2000/index.htm

Do not forget to use your word processor, save, cut and paste!

1. List what you feel are two of the major reasons the food service industry is growing.

2. Choose one of the three types of food service operations: full service, limited service, or other eating places [from the menu on the left hand side of the screen]
For the area you have choose; List three areas of growth, possible areas of decline, why one might look to start an operation in that segment, and why one might decide to stay clear of an operation in this segment.
