Naming Course Tools in Bb Learn

Bb Learn allows you to rename tools when you create "Tool Links" in the course menu or from inside a folder. While this flexibility is sometimes nice, inconsistency across courses can create problems for students.Therefore we recommend that you use the standard tool names, with one exception. At NAU, we call the tool with the organizational modules "Dashboard" rather than Blackboard's "Home Page" because it was a source of confusion for students.

Here are the most commonly used Blackboard tools and their standard names:

• Announcements
• Blogs
• Calendar
• Discussion Board
• Groups
• Journals
• Messages (NOTE: this is Blackboard's internal e-mail system - it does not send to students' NAU email)
• My Grades (NOTE: this allows students to see their grades entered in the Grade Center)

If you decide to name these tools differently, please let students know.
