Sunflower

DESCRIPTION: This is an annual plant from the family Asteracea. It is of hybrid origin with parentage that extends across the Americas.
It has thick, woody stalks usually green in color. It has yellow-petal
flowers with a dark face containing the black and white seedpods.
It grows easily in areas with hot summers and moderately rich soil. It
begins to grow in mid spring to early summer, or whenever the soil thaws. It
is a common garden flower, but birds frequently eat the seeds. People also
eat the seeds of some varieties.
