This series of lessons will cover 8 weeks. The topics of offense and
defense using the dagger as well as variations to the standard wards should
be covered. These lessons should be started after the Introduction to the
Rapier Lessons.
FIRST LESSON
Introduce the dagger..
1. Introduction
Talk about history of carrying and using
a dagger. Show proper ways of holding the dagger.
2. On Guard Position
Show the right and left leg forward stances.
Discuss the pros and cons of using either.
3. Have students practice movement and
the various guards.
SECOND LESSON
The students should be able to successfully
move and take up the various guards. Teach parrying with the dagger.
1. Practice movement to warm up.
2. Practice parrying with the dagger
in dui tempi.
THIRD LESSON
The student practices stesso tempo defense
using the dagger.
1. Practice parrying with the dagger and
at the same time thrusting or cutting with the rapier.
FOURTH LESSON
The student practices stesso tempo defense
using foot movement (incartata, etc) to avoid the attack while at the same
time closing the line with the dagger.
1. Practice parrying with the dagger while
using foot movement to gain a better counterattack angle.
FIFTH LESSON
General practice. The instructor should
monitor the student's progression and correct any problems.

SIXTH LESSON
The students are introduced to preparatory
actions with the dagger.

2. Practice attacks with the dagger.
SEVENTH LESSON
The students are introduced to offensive
actions with the dagger.

Review.
1. Introduction
The students practice use of the dagger
for defense and offense. Further supporting information from the masters
should be given.
