Thyroglossal Tract Cyst

Etiology

Developmental

 

 

 

Predilection

Greater in females

10-30 years

 

 

 

Location

Along the thyroglossal tract form the foramen caecum to the normal location of the thyroid gland below the hyoid bone

Clinical Appearance

If below the hyoid bone a bulge or swelling in the midline of the neck

 

Radiographic Features

NA

 

 

 

Microscopic Features

Cyst lined by epithelium

Thyroid tissue in connective tissue wall of cyst

Treatment

Surgical removal

Complete excision of cyst and tract
