Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Etiology

Idiopathic/Primary=unknown

Immune Type=Autoimmune

Secondary=Drugs often chemotheraputic agent

 

 

 

 

Predilection

Idiopathic/Primary=usually children and young adults

Immune Type=usually children and young adults

Secondary=none

 

 

 

 

Location

Systemic disease

 

 

 

 

 

 

Clinical Appearance

Idiopathic/Primary=severe reduction of circulating platelets causing spontaneous hemorrhagic lesion of the skin and mucosa, gingival bleeding, blood in urine

Immune Type=spontaneous hemorrhagic lesion of the skin and mucosa, gingival bleeding, blood in urine

Secondary=spontaneous hemorrhagic lesion of the skin and mucosa, gingival bleeding, blood in urine

Treatment

Idiopathic/Primary=systemic corticosteriod, splenectomy

Immune Type=systemic corticosteriod, splenectomy

Secondary=discontinuation of causative agents
