Etiology

Deficiency of intrinsic factor produced by parietal cells of the stomach

Autoimmune mechanism most likely

Chronic blood loss

Poor iron absorption

Increased iron requirement

Predilection

Location

Systemic disease

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Clinical Appearance

Weakness, fatigue, skin pallor, nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, weight Loss

Angular Cheilitis

Painful erythematous and depapillated tongue

Ulcerated oral mucosa

Microscopic Features

Abnormally large red blood cells

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Treatment

Vitamin B12
