Paget's Disease

 

Etiology

Chronic metabolic bone disease

Etiology unknown

Predilection

Greater in male

Most common over 50 years of age

Location

Pelvis and spinal column

Maxilla greater than mandible

Clinical Appearance

Enlargement of involved bone may be associated with pain

Cause spacing of teeth or ill-fitting denture if arches are involved

Radiographic Features

Patchy radiolucency/radiopacity "cotton-wool" appearance

Hypercementosis and loss of lamina dura


Microscopic Features

Mosaic bone reversal line in bone with osteoblast and osteoclasts lining the tabeculae

Well vascularized fibrous tissue
