John Dearing was a track-and-field friend of Dick's, most remembered for the fact that Dick could never quite beat him in a race. John claims that his running now is limited to "between the car and the garage", so Dick may have a better chance of winning a race with him now.
Dick remembers Ali from grade school. After 26 years in frigid Minnesota, Ali has returned to Arizona and just bought a house in Sedona.
