Module 1: The Psychology of Assessment
You will walk away from this module with a thorough understanding of the context of assessment and the langauge, for assesment comes with a rich vocabulary that has little overlap with the field of education. You will finish this module with a realistic view of assessment and the professionals who will be administering these assessments. It is hoped tht you will also walk away with a sense of compassion and understanding for students who must take these tests. You should also gain a grounding in methods to help and alleviate stressors and bias that might create undue pressure on the individual student and eventually lead to lower scores then the student should have received. You will also spend a great deal of time getting a feel for these tests so that you understand the subtlties of assessment and what a difference a small change in wording can make. This is true for the context of wording or the subject matter as well. So be prepared to gain some second person perspective as you work through these assessments of your own. You would be wise to remember some of the results because you will be writing your own Psycho-Educational Evaluation at the end of the course. You will then prepare to go into the world of legalities that characterzies assessment in the realm of Special Education.
So hang onto your hats...its getting to be a fast paced ride!
