Popular culture information--motion pictures, television, best sellers, popular music. Many movies, television shows, entertainers, and the corporate parents of these productions have Web pages. A good resource for communications and media studies. Example: The X-files site, the Del Rey books home page, the CBS Television Web site.

Businesses--statistics and financial data about business and industry are still better found in the Reference room, but most large and many small companies now have Web sites, offering very current information about what the company is doing. A good resource for job seekers. Example: The IBM home page, the Bikermart Web site for Harley Davidson products and services.

Government Information--many local, state and federal government agencies and offices now have Web sites offering information about what the agency is doing and making available, information that would otherwise be difficult to access. Example: the Arizona Board of Regents home page.

Sports Information--sports information is very prevalent on the Web. Many professional sports teams and their leagues have Web sites and less popular sports are well represented too. Everything from current scores, to horse race betting and sports Halls of Fame can be found on the Web. Example: The Boston Celtics Home page, ESPNet, The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY

Medical Condition or Syndrome Information--persons with special medical or psychological conditions, disorders or problems seem to use the Web very effectively to keep in touch with each other and to disseminate information. There is a surprising amount of information concerning these types of conditions. Example: The Brain Disorders home page, the Dyslexia 2000 Network.

Current Events, Happenings or Hot Topics--the Web, more than some other media is about the here and now. Upcoming events or current topics in the news are likely to receive a lot of hits if searched for on the Web. Example: The Lillith Fair Festival, Ken Starr's report on the Clinton investigation.

Directory Type Information--names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. for associations, educational institutions, businesses are often able to be found on the Web. Example: WorldNet Source Book Online-Architects and Interior Designers, DoctorLink, EXPOGuide.

Travel and Tourism Information--many airlines, hotel chains, and travel agents are now on the World Wide Web. Example: The Internet Travel Network, the Information Skyway (airline links).
