I am Professor of Anthropology at Northern Arizona University, the author
of
as well as the editor of one collection (Social and Cultural Lives of Immune Systems,
and of the book series, Blackwell Studies in Discourse and Culture.
My research interests include linguistic anthropology; semiotics; intersubjectivity; lament and other forms of verbal art; language and globalization. My current research project— Re-Sounding Voices: Healing with Lament” in the Contemporary Finnish Lament Revival—is supported by the National Science Foundation.
I am a member of the Society for Cultural Anthropology, the Society for Linguistic Anthropology, the Society for Medical Anthropology, and the Society for Psychological Anthropology.
