LS 301: Reference and Bibliography is a class that, in many ways, is a self-paced, independent learning experience. After the first week, we will not be meeting regularly as a class, although we will meet at least once a week for discussions, follow-up sessions, demonstrations, and exams.

Some recommendations for a successful class experience:

• I recommend keeping up with the daily readings and assignments; otherwise, it is too easy to fall behind rather quickly.
• I recommend working with other classmates in teams or in study groups, especially when reviewing and evaluating reference sources.
• I recommend meeting with me during office hours or by appointment to discuss difficulties you may be having. Again, it is easy to fall behind if you're not careful.
• I recommend starting a log, or using index cards, for all the resources you'll be reviewing. These notes CAN be used during the search tests.

The class requires a fair amount of work, but we are cramming a whole semester's worth of material in a mere 22 days. Extra study outside of class time is essential, but this is balanced by the fact that, since we don't meet regularly as a class, you have most of that class time to complete assignments.
