Web Activity 1: Ethics Scavenger Hunt

We touched on the ethics of qualitative research in this and other topics. For a bit more information, open the link below and read more about the ethics issues when doing research by Bill Trochim at Cornell. Dr. Trochim lists six key principles that are crucial to follow when planning and implementing a research project. As he notes, these principles grew out of abuses in research protocols used in medical studies, notably those of World War II covered by the Nuremburg trials and the Tuskegee Syphilis study in the U.S. Trochim study

After reading Trochim's introduction, go out and search the web for a site that provides detail about the Nuremberg trial research, the Tuskegee Syphilis study, or any other study that you feel does not follow the six key principles of ethical research. Please post the URL for your site in the Virtual Conference Center. Return to the VCC a couple of times and open and review the sites posted by your classmates.
