Choose 2 authors from Addams, Nearing, Ghandi, Collopy, Cronkite, Day, Weil, Camus, and discuss how their historical context affects their argument. When do you see language that reflects their gender, their country, their generation? Choose one example from each author where their argument is timeless, or the same argument can be made today.

Use Roy and Butler as part of discussion on ethos, pathos, and logos. Pay attention to voice, and how you respond to their writing. When is their writing visual, emotional, factual, and or direct? When are they most successful?

Use the Architects of Peace book. Choose 4 selections from our assigned and unassigned readings. What do the photographs do for the writing? What if the book had their texts, but no photographs? Why the close up? Why black-and-white? What influences do you bring to their photographs? How do you know, when were you told, how were you influenced to think about photos?
