| Language vs. Dialect | What is the diffreence between a dialect and a language? You might want to explore other areas in the net that deals with this. This is very important to ESL abd Bilinguial Education if one is interested in discerning what the approporiate language of instruction should be. Is there any relationship between accents and dialects/languages? |
| Languages other than English in American schools | This is not very current but it clearly shows the various languages in American Schools. Reflect on the languages in US schools vis a vis the languages of the world! Why does the US have so many languages represented? |

Read for the next two class meetings the following articles by me: Ethnographic Issues and Insights in MC Classrooms Expanded Awareness of Student Performance Aspects of Bilingual Students' Communicative Competence The read Erickson's article: Gatekeeping and the Melting Pot---this is a theoretical piece that led to similar research in classrooms. My aticles and research are based on many of Erickson's theories. He was my mentor at Harvard.
