African Quilting Traditions
You will need to investigate what types of quilts the Africans used. The power point presentation will provide you with important information. What did their loom houses look like? Would you have wanted to work in them? What types of patterns are found in African quilts? What kinds of colors do they use? What symbols do the quilts stand for? Do you think they were important to African culture?
1. Map of Africa

- What were the slaves needed for on plantations and wealthy households?
- What kinds of materials were used to do this?
- Look at the string quilt. Describe it and draw a sketch of it, or of one of its panels.
- Look at and describe story quilts.
- Which type of quilting uses the materials most efficiently?
