As with other disabilities that we have learned about, one of the dangers of learning about attention deficit disorder, the definitions we choose to use, the general characteristics of persons who have this type of disability, and intervention methods that are available, is that we lose the person in the avalance of information. We begin to loose sight of the fact that this is an individual who may show some of these characteristics or may need some of these interventions. Unfortunately, the more knowledge you have about a disability, the more you tend to view children as more similar than they are different.


In this activity, I am going to send you to web pages that give personal accounts of attention deficit disorder or tell you about how children with attention deficit disorder respond to their disability. You will need to read the first account, "What is it like to have ADD?" then choose one other story from the second site. When you are finished reading the stories, answer the questions below.
