One of the ways you can see how your community views persons with disabiities is to take a servey of businesses and public buildings. Much has changed with the Americans with Disabilities Act, but there are still some subtle signs of acceptance or isolation if you look hard enough.

In this assignment, I want you to look at two businesses or public buildings in your community. You will be looking to see (a) how visible are people with disabilities, and (b) how accessible are the buildings to people with different disabilities.

When you have completed the assignment, fill in the text fields below and send the assignment to your instructor.

1. How prominent were people with disabilities? Were they working for the agency/business/organization? Were there people with disabilities int the building as customers?

2. One measure of how a community views its members with disabilities is the extent to which the buildings provide free and equal access. How accessible were the building in your survey to persons with disabilities?
