Notes:
Download help? If you're lucky, your web browser is already correctly set up for FTP (file transfer protocol). Just click on the name of the program you want and you should be directed to a download page for the program or, if there is no web page, the download will begin automatically. If you run into problems, try the Download Help Page or send me an e-mail at the address below. If you want to browse the shareware archives directly, here is a list of Shareware Archives. If you don't have a program for decompressing archived files, get Stuffit Expander; another great product. It's free!
Ratings: 1=poor, 2=fair, 3=good, 4=very good, 5=excellent. My rating system is based on ease of use, value as a teaching tool, and my overall impressions of the app. I tend to rate more ambitious programs higher, but even a tiny program that does its thing very well can get a good score. In most cases, programs with a score below 3 will not be listed unless that application fills a content area void.
Registration: Fees are listed in U.S. dollars unless otherwise indicated. Read the license agreement for each application to obtain all the details. Please support shareware. This is great stuff!
Processor: 086 refers to machines such as the IBM XT, which used the Intel 8086 processor, 286 refers to machines with the Intel 80286 processor such as the IBM AT. 386 refers to machines with the Intel 80386 processor. 486 refers to machines with the Intel 80486 processor. PI, PII, and PIII refer to machines which have an Intel Pentium chip or its equivalent AMD or Cyrix processor.
Operating System: 086 and 286 machines typically run only under DOS. 386 and 486 machines typically run Windows 3.1 or DOS. Pentium machines generally run Windows 95, 98 or NT.
Download Links: Whenever possible, I will point you to the web page of the application which is hosted by the author, since this is likely to be the most current source of information on the program. If none exists, I will direct you to the shareware archive where I found it.
Comments? If you find a broken link or a program you'd like me to add to the list, send a message to Larry.MacPhee@NAU.edu
