2. Use fig. 30-2 to determine when birds made their appearance on earth. Note when Archaeopteryx and the Pterosaurs are found. 1 point.
3. What is a penguin? Can a bird have a keeled sternum but not fly? Explain. Give four examples of ratites. 2 points.
4. Explain how "beaks and feed" can be used as clues for determining habitat and nutrition. Give two examples to support your response. 1 point.
5. How would researchers test a bird to see if the sense of taste is developed? How about smell? If it is offensive to humans, does this qualify as the standard? Defend your response. 3 points.
