Task #1

Each student/group will be assigned an area of assistive technology from the following list.

Eight Areas of Assistive Technology

  1. Computers

  2. Mobility/Movement

  3. Hearing/Deafness & Voice

  4. Visual

  5. Daily Living

  6. School/Workplace

  7. Sports

  8. Recreation/Leisure

Your task is to research your area of Assistive Technology.  You will use PowerPoint to present your research to the class.   NOTE:  Keep track of your resources.  You will be required to turn in a Bibliography at the end of this project.
IF YOU ARE WORKING IN A GROUP:  Each member must complete a portion of the research.  Each member is also responsible for a bibliography that reflects ONLY their individual research.

 

The questions below are given only as guides/ideas on the types of things you may choose to include in your presentation.

  1. What made society and people with disabilities require assistive technology in this area?
  2. Was this an area that people with disabilities could participate in before assistive technology?
  3. How does this area apply to real life for people with disabilities?
  4. What is the history behind this area?
  5. What is the present state of this area?
  6. What does the future hold for this area of assistive technology?
  7. Are you interested in this area of Assistive Technology more than other areas of assistive technology?  Why?

Task #2

Use PowerPoint to create a presentation.  Your presentation should detail the information you discovered during Task #1. 

IF YOU ARE WORKING IN A GROUP:  Each group member must do a portion of the presentation.

 

Tips for a Successful Presentation

  • Slide 1 should contain:  A title for your presentation & your name

  • Remember that the presentation must be professional

  • When presenting, DO NOT read your presentation

  • Know your audience

  • Save your presentation often

  • Follow the 7 x 7 rule

  • DO NOT FORGET ABOUT YOUR BIBLIOGRAPHY!

 

You will be graded using a rubric (see the evaluation page for more information).

Task #3

Prior to presentation day:

  • Complete your Bibliography.  It should be typed using APA formatting on the last slide of your PowerPoint.
    IF YOU ARE WORKING IN A GROUP:  Each member is responsible for their own Bibliography.  You MUST type your Bibliography in a word processing program & upload it with your group's PowerPoint Presentation.  It should NOT be included as a slide in your PowerPoint.

  • Print a copy of your presentation for the instructor.  Your presentation should be printed in Handout format with 4 slides per page.
