Following the leads of most portals, I undertook to create a user-definable 'home page' of sorts to collect a user's most wanted links. This project has gone from becoming a Perl programming exercise to a carefully considered ColdFusion application which queries and maintains Oracle databases of resources and user prefs, and employs cookies. Both CF and Oracle are noted for being robust under heavy simultaneous loads, and CF is designed for exactly this enterprise.

The interface is in the process of being retooled to fit my guidelines for common Web portal interface aesthetics (as of late 2000).

Dummy databases need to be established or CF needs to read in current dbrefer.dat file.

Privacy statement already drafted.

Seminar on other libraries moving in this direction leads me to believe we're on the right track.
