Reading and VCC Activity: Read Luis Rodriguez' Always Running. This book should take you about less than two hours to read. It is fast reading and I should warn you that it contains scenes that are very vivid, harsh, sexual, including street language. Luis Rodriguez told me that this is the best seller in most prisons, juvenile detention centers, and many gang members carry it in their back pockets. They value this book because it is a true, non-fictional story to which they can relate. Please read it and immediately place your gut reactions to the book on the VCC section, "Reactions to Always Running." Include in your reactions what you think "respect" means and explore why children join gangs!
