Topic 2: Family and Community Involvement

When the schools form partnerships with families and communities, children and youth "grow up healthy, achieve academically, and become productive adults." (Health is Academic, p. 93)

Purpose: The purpose of this topic is to investigate the role of the family and community in promoting health in K-12 schools.

Objectives: After completing this topic, the student will be able to:

  1. Describe the essential roles the family and community can play in promoting the health of children.
  2. List and name some key players in the community that can play a significant role in promoting the health of children.
  3. Outline and be able to implement the action steps for integrating the family and community into a coordinated school health program.
